At what age should I have my prostate checked?

For most men, screening is worth considering from age 50. If you have a family history of prostate or breast cancer, or if you are of black ethnicity, that age drops to 45.

What should I avoid before a PSA blood test?

Avoid ejaculation for 48 hours before the test, vigorous exercise (especially cycling) for 48 hours, and any urinary tract procedures or catheter use for the previous six weeks. All of these can temporarily raise PSA and skew the result.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book a private prostate screening directly. With your permission, we will write to your GP afterwards to keep them informed.
