In short

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine, affecting around one in three people over 60 - more common in women, but men are affected too, especially after prostate surgery. Treatment ranges from pelvic floor exercises to medication and Botox injections, matched to the type of incontinence you have.

Recognise It

The two main types of incontinence

Urgency Incontinence

A sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine, often with frequent trips to the bathroom and waking at night.

Stress Urinary Incontinence

Coughing, sneezing, bending, lifting or exercising puts pressure on the bladder, causing urine to leak.

Mixed Incontinence

A combination of urgency and stress symptoms, reflecting issues with both bladder control and pelvic support.

Your Options

Every treatment, under one consultant

Conservative management & bladder retraining

Fluid and diet changes alongside behavioural training that increases the interval between bathroom visits.

Pelvic floor exercises (PFMT)

Strengthening the pelvic floor under the guidance of a dedicated physiotherapist.

Medication

Anti-cholinergic drugs calm an overactive bladder, effective in around 60% of cases.

Intravesical Botox injections

A minimally invasive injection into the bladder wall to reduce symptoms, repeated every 6 to 9 months.

Common Questions

Before you book

Is urinary incontinence just part of ageing?
It becomes more common with age, but it should not be accepted as an inevitable part of getting older. Effective treatments and management strategies can significantly reduce or resolve symptoms, whatever your age.
Can lifestyle changes really help?
Yes. Managing fluid intake, adjusting your diet and doing regular pelvic floor exercises can meaningfully reduce the frequency and urgency of leaks, alongside any treatment Mr Ghei recommends.
How is urinary incontinence diagnosed?
An ultrasound scan checks the anatomy and emptying of the bladder and kidneys, and urodynamics testing measures bladder pressure and flow to identify the type of incontinence you have.
Do I need a referral to book?
No GP referral is needed to see Mr Ghei privately. Insured and self-pay patients are both welcome.
